Henley SLSC offers trial sessions for all potential nippers to come and see what it is all about. We highly recommend all potential nippers to come to one of these trial sessions.

Sessions are typically on Saturday afternoons from 1 pm until 2 pm for the Under 6 and 7 age groups and from 1 pm until 3 pm for all other age groups.
Sessions may be moved due to weather or other factors, this will be communicated with all parents as soon as it becomes known.

The age group of your child is based on the age of your child at the start of the season. For instance, if your child was 11 as of the 10th of October then they would be an under 12 (U12) for that season.

All membership fees are available on our membership guide.
Please note, all nippers must also have a parent who is a member of the club. Parents can receive free social membership status.

For your first session please bring:
Bathers
Goggles
Sunscreen
A sun-smart hat
A sun-smart shirt or rashie for beach activities
A towel
A water bottle
You will also be required to purchase a hi-vis singlet or rashie within the first few sessions. This is a rule accross Surf Life Saving to improve safety.

What Nippers Learn
Nippers learn to read the beach: to recognise a rip, understand the surf, and judge where and when it is safe to swim. Alongside this sit the practical skills such as wading, swimming, board paddling, running and flags, and the basics of first aid and surf education. Everything is taught in stages suited to the child's age, so younger children build water confidence through play while older groups take on more of the lifesaving role preparing them to move into patrols and gaining their Surf Rescue Certificate. Much of it is enjoyable, and that is part of the point, because children learn best when they are comfortable. But the purpose underneath is serious, and the safety skills are real.
Why Should I do it?
What children learn at Nippers stays with them. Nippers gives them the confidence to handle themselves in the surf, the judgement to keep a mate safe, and an ease around the ocean that most people never develop. These are skills for life, not just for a season. For the families, you become part of a strong, vibrant club that has been the heart of the Henley community for over 100 years.
Few activities give a child a stronger start, and there is no better place to begin than the origin of lifesaving in South Australia, Henley!
