About

The Henley Surf Lifesaving Club was founded following a meeting in the Henley Town Hall on the 1st of October 1925 when a motion was put by Mr. Dan Dineen that the club is called “The Henley Lifesaving  Club” and from a small clubroom within a disused old concrete boat shed just North of the Henley jetty, the Club officially opened on the 21st of November 1925.  This was to become the first lifesaving club in South Australia.

100 years history

Throughout the decades, Henley SLSC has been at the forefront of surf lifesaving, from the early days of reel and line rescues to the introduction of modern rescue techniques, inflatable rescue boats, and advanced training programs. Our volunteers have provided thousands of patrol hours, ensuring the safety of beachgoers and upholding the proud tradition of vigilance and service that defines surf life saving in Australia.

Henley has also built a strong reputation in surf sports, developing athletes who have competed at state, national, and international levels. The club’s rich competitive history is matched by its community spirit, with generations of families, members, and supporters contributing to the vibrant culture we enjoy today.

As we celebrate our centenary, we reflect on the people, milestones, and moments that have shaped our journey. From lifesaving pioneers to today’s dedicated members, Henley SLSC remains driven by the same core values: saving lives, fostering youth development, promoting a healthy beach lifestyle, and strengthening our community.
